Mount Jewett Memorial Library Mural
Karen Sees, a native of Mount Jewett and a resident of Hamlin Township, and Samila Sosic, a well-known Bradford artist who is an art professor at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, have begun painting the mural on the west side of the Mount Jewett Memorial Library.
The mural will be a series of books with older designs on the covers. This is a layering process. It begins with blocking out the size and color of the books, followed by shading to provide some three-dimensional appearance, then adding the intricate details to the covers. The open book will be their signature piece, similar to an open art book with a painting by Karen and a painting by Samila. This will likely be one of the final parts painted on the mural.
While this is a slow process, completion is anticipated to be no later than the middle of August in time for the Swedish Festival.
The Mount Jewett Memorial Library receives state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency
